What is our massage therapy process like?

Evaluation and Goal Setting

We’ll meet to analyze your current state of wellness, including range of motion, posture, pain, and other factors. We’ll also discuss your goals and how we will work together to reach them.

In the Massage Session

In every massage session, we’ll conduct a mini evaluation at the start to identify what we’ll focus on in the session and one at the end to see progress made.

Ongoing Massage Program

Massage therapy works best as an ongoing practice. We work with all of our clients through regular massage sessions to ensure we reach and maintain your goals.

Self-Care Outside of Massage Sessions

We’ll provide easy self-care practices to help you continue to improve your overall wellbeing and prevent issues from returning, such as stretching or foam rolling routines, exercises, and other healthy habits.

Meet Your Massage Therapist

Allen JohnsonLMBT #17892 | Carolina Massage Institute

After more than a decade in the fitness industry and seeing too many people get derailed by subpar recovery from exercise and injury, Allen turned his sights to massage therapy in 2018.

I took time off during my busy schedule to accompany my husband for a meeting in town and realized my body was too achy to relax and rest. Just so happen to find Allen was free to work on me. And was I lucky to meet him. Not only he was awesome with his massage bodywork but also was incredibly knowledgeable for personal training.  Here are few reasons to support my claims; 1). A legit massage bodywork.  This was not those pappy spa pat down. He did a thoughtful head to toe body work with focus on my problem area. I was recovering from my frozen shoulder and he was able to help me to calm the pain and regained some of my range of motion. It is too bad that I don’t live here. 2). A great personal trainer with skillful teaching ability.  Shortly after I met him, I knew he was passionate about physical fitness and health. Due to my injury and age, I could not do lots of “regular” exercise that normal gyms provided. I have had personal trainers before but they were not keen towards my biological changes and fitness needs( I am between 55-60). He was able to explain, demonstrate, and teach me to perform some of basic exercises that I can do alone on daily basis. There were so many incorrect techniques I have been doing wrong for years.  I was only booked for bodywork at first, but he was so inspiring that I have new hope about improving my fitness route when I walked out of there. 3). Professional and attentive. I was very impressive with his thoughtfulness despite of his young age and how relatively new his practice is. He took time answering my questions and did not even trying to charging me extra. If you are seriously looking for a massage therapist, a personal trainer, or both, Allen will not disappoint you.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does massage therapy work?

Massage is the manipulation of the muscles and fascia (connective tissue) using the hands and other tools to release tension and correct improper muscle firing to alleviate pain and correct imbalances in the body. Through a variety of techniques, such as deep tissue massage, and trigger point therapy, overactive or injured muscles are encouraged to heal and function properly to allow the musculoskeletal and other body systems to operate optimally.

Is massage only for relaxation?

Massage is absolutely for relaxation, but that’s not all. Massage can alleviate chronic pain, restore restful sleep, promote mental health, reduce stress, aid in healing post injury or surgery, and so much more.

Can one massage therapy session correct my issue?

While it’s likely you will feel great and experience notable pain and stress reduction after just one session, long-term issues require long-term care. Regular massage creates better, more effective results with each consecutive session.

What types of massage do you offer?

Massage comes in many different styles designed to address different issues. Rather than offering just one style for an entire session, we mix techniques to best suit each client’s individual needs.

  • Deep Tissue Massage: Works in the deeper layer of muscles to break up adhesions and tension to restore optimal muscle movement.
  • Sports Massage: A technique designed specifically for athletes to promote recovery and enhance muscle performance.
  • Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM): Using specially designed tools for treatment.
  • Trigger Point Therapy: Direct pressure applied to small and extremely tense nodules within tense muscle fiber groups.
  • Percussion: Using either the hands or specialized tools, a light and receptive pulse of pressure is applied to especially tense muscle areas.

Does massage therapy hurt?

Some techniques aren’t always purely enjoyable, but that’s usually because it takes more intense pressure or manipulation to get the desired relaxation in a muscle. Some discomfort is to be expected, but feedback throughout the session is welcomed and encouraged, especially if a certain technique is ever too uncomfortable.

Do I have to get fully undressed?

Your level of dress is completely up to you – you can even remain fully clothed if you prefer. If you are undressed, your private areas will remain covered with a sheet or blanket during the entire appointment.
